For the first time in China’s history, a law addressing domestic
violence against women has been passed. The law, which will become
effective 1 March 2016, addresses all forms of domestic violence,
including psychological violence. It also simplifies the restraining
order process.

According to official state statistics, one in
four Chinese women have experienced domestic violence, but no more than
50,000 women in the country of 1.35 billion file complaints about the
violence.
