The Fire Power of the Financial Lobby in Brussels
The Fire Power of the Financial Lobby in Brussels:
For many years, trade unions and civil society have seen the power of the financial lobby unfold, both at the national and at the EU-level. The (de)regulation of financial markets in the EU was completely put in the hands of banks, insurances, large asset management companies, and their respective trade associations.
Surprisingly enough, until today, no comprehensive survey on the dominance of the financial lobby in Brussels has been published. With our survey, we hence want to shed light on privileged access for industry interests in a field so important to workers, citizens and society as a whole as financial regulation.
We would like to invite you to join us for the Brussels premiere of the first public presentation of the stunning results of this survey. This will be followed by a political discussion with high-ranking personalities from EU politics and advocacy. What lessons do workers and citizens from all around Europe have to draw from past experiences with financial market regulation? Did financial industry lobbying after the outbreak of the financial crisis more than 5 years ago serve the interests of society as a whole? Will a renewed Commission be willing and able to reign in special interests and lobby influence after the upcoming EP elections in May?
