Small arms: A disproportionate impact on women
Arms control is a human rights issue as small arms proliferation
inhibits development and humanitarian efforts, says Dr. Anna Alvazzi del
Frate.
Leaving aside armed conflicts, the use of guns in
domestic violence situation, particularly in “stable” areas like Europe,
leaves a disproportionate number of women as victims, Alvazzi adds.
Stemming the tide of gun violence as it affects women requires advocacy
underpinned by facts, concludes Alvazzi. This is exactly what her
group, the Small Arms Survey, helps to provide.
