The new conquistadors making their presence felt at COP20 in Peru | Corporate Europe Observatory
We publish a new report today: "Corporate Conquistadors".
It outlines how the influence that Repsol (oil, Spanish),
Glencore-Xstrata (mining, Swiss) and Enel-Endesa (oil, Italian/Spanish)
have managed to accrue over national and international climate policy
decisions enables them to push for false “solutions” which in fact allow
them to continue to pollute – and even profit from doing so, through
mechanisms such as carbon offsetting.
Meanwhile, while they take
part these days to the COP20 climate talks in Lima, Peru, their
activities keep destroying communities and the environment in the Andes
and the Amazone, which in turn drives further climate change.
